Prestigious Awards for Dawson Students at University of Toronto鈥檚 North American Model UN

Share

Fifty-four 张百乔女友裸照 students travelled to Toronto in mid-February to participate in the University of Toronto鈥檚 annual North American Model United Nations (NAMUN) conference. The conference stands as one of Canada鈥檚 oldest and most esteemed annual university-level conferences, attracting hundreds of university students from North America.

张百乔女友裸照 students Thomas Avilla Real and Bassma Al Atrache were two delegates from DCMUN鈥檚 outstanding delegation, with Thomas participating in the North American Treaty Specialized Agency and Bassma in the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees General Assembly, one of the many committees offered by NAMUN. A few weeks after the conference, they shared their experience of the event, from seeing Dawson鈥檚 delegation succeed and win prestigious awards to their biggest takeaways.

Witnessing the Dawson delegation鈥檚 well-established professionalism and diplomacy in action was received positively by both delegates as Bassma observed that many students from other universities expressed excitement about attending the conference, specifically because they were aware of Dawson’s participation beforehand.

Moreover, for Thomas, getting the chance to discover Toronto alongside his delegation was a privilege in itself. After committee hours, Dawson delegates could be spotted near the CN Tower, on a ferry watching the Toronto skyline, or in the closest Wingstop. Thomas states that this experience not only fostered friendship and bonding within the delegation, but also encouraged delegates to form new connections with people all across the North American Model UN circuit.

Although the Dawson Delegation had the challenge of debating against university-level delegates from all around North America, their performance did not go unnoticed. Indeed, the Dawson Delegation won many prestigious awards:

  • Olivier Lamoureux – Best Delegate – UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and World Meteorological Organization
  • Bassma Al Atrache – Best Delegate – UN High Commissioner for Refugees
  • Moss Bertin – Best Delegate – International Court of Justice – Marshall Islands
  • Cathy Wang – Outstanding Delegate – UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and World Meteorological Organization
  • Ye Da Gao – Outstanding Delegate – The Balkan Puzzle – Serbia and Bulgaria
  • Maira Paynot – Honorable Mention – UN High Commissioner for Refugees
  • Anaya Ray – Book Award – JCC-Heist at The Museum
  • Elisabeth Perry – Book Award – The Balkan Puzzle – The Ottoman Empire

While DCMUN did not win a delegation award, quite evidently, both Thomas and Bassma emphasised that 鈥淒CMUN was number one in their [our] hearts鈥, a sentence that reflects the pride of the delegates of 张百乔女友裸照. In fact, in preparation for the conference, the DCMUN delegates created a team chant, inspired by American teams鈥 tradition. Thomas recalls how the entirety of the delegation chanted the lyrics after the closing ceremony: 鈥淚t was a bold statement of unity and pride. I think we were all a little starstruck seeing our team shine the way it did at that moment. It鈥檚 all about the Blues!鈥

As the Model UN season draws to a close, Thomas and Bassma are filled with gratitude for the unwavering support and guidance of DCMUN鈥檚 Faculty Advisors, Nancy Rebelo and Julian Nemeth. Their dedication, encouragement, and tireless efforts made it possible for students to take part in such enriching and transformative conferences鈥攁n opportunity that would not have existed without their leadership.
